The Marché Group, whose brands include Marché Mövenpick, Mövenpick Restaurants, Palavrion Grill & Bar, White Monkey, and Cindy’s Diner, has reached a deal to acquire Switzerland-based caterer Marché International from France’s Lagardère Travel Retail.

Although the amount of the deal was not made public, it involved 100% of the shares of the multinational catering company.

It comes shortly after Dufry, the largest airport retailer in the world and a Swiss company, announced the acquisition of Autogrill, allowing it to join the food and beverage (F&B) market at scale in transport hubs like airports and highways.

One of the three main pillars of Lagardère Travel Retail, together with duty-free and travel necessities, is the food and beverage industry. Lagardère Travel Retail has responded, however, since the Dufry acquisition would result in a $14 billion enterprise (based on the combined 2019 sales of Dufry and Autogrill).

Although the purchase price was not made public, it was for 100% of the stock in the multi-brand, multinational catering company.

F&B is one of the three fundamental pillars of Lagardère Travel Retail, the other two being travel basics and duty-free, and it already had a strong presence in the industry.

Lagardère Travel Retail has responded, though, since the Dufry acquisition will result in a $14 billion enterprise (based on the combined 2019 revenues of Dufry and Autogrill).
